Charleston County Medical Transportation is a data-driven and evidence-based company continuously striving to implement effective strategies for enhanced training, integrated technologies, and managerial support and communication. Because we provide local and long-distance transportation, effective planning and communication between dispatch and key facilities is paramount.

We believe transparency is fundamental to delivering exceptional service that benefits both your facility and your patients. To that end, we provide real-time updates on rider status to the facility as well as to riders and their families.

Our scheduling and logistics systems are designed to minimize travel and wait times while maintaining efficiency. We continually refine policies and procedures to support our mission, analyze transportation challenges, address scheduling conflicts, and collaborate with carriers, vendors, and strategic partners.

Our dispatchers receive extensive instruction on using integrated systems designed to support our growing scheduling and logistical demands. Dispatchers are responsible for the following:

PERSONNEL TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Understanding that our staff is our single greatest asset, Charleston County Medical Transportation is dedicated to effective recruitment, retention, training, development, and promotion of competent, reliable, and professional personnel that prioritize safety and compassionate care.

Our driver evaluation and training programs are compliant with all laws and standards required by the State of South Carolina, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and are designed to ensure safety, competence, and reliability. Each applicant is required to pass a physical, a background check, random drug and alcohol screenings pre-hire and throughout the duration of employment.

Upon hiring, all drivers are subject to driver-in-training instruction to be conducted by senior drivers and overseen by senior management. The duration of such instruction will last between 2-4 weeks depending on the level of experience and abilities of each driver.

With safety being the focal point of our training program, all drivers are required to perform a behind-the-wheel road test. Drivers are evaluated on judgment of vision, memory, reaction time, physical function, and cognition. In addition to effective vehicle operations, drivers receive training in the proper use of wheelchairs, stretchers, hydraulic lifts and securing devices. Drivers are trained in how to properly load, secure, and unload ambulatory and wheelchair patients.

Underscored by the need for privacy and confidentiality, drivers are educated on all HIPPA rules and regulations in addition to facility-specific policies and procedures. Various annual and semi-annual re-certifications are required for all drivers in addition to random drug and alcohol testing.
